Choosing an exhaust for the SQ7 4.0 V8 TT petrol
First check whether your pre-facelift petrol SQ7 has a particulate filter. OPF/GPF cars from 2021 to 2024 use the filter-back system, which keeps the filter in place, with sports cat or de-cat downpipes for that version. Non-OPF cars from 2021 have a cat-back system and a front pipe-back system, which replaces more of the exhaust, along with their own downpipes. Systems come resonated, for less drone on the motorway, or non-resonated for a louder V8.
SQ7 downpipes and the MOT
A sports cat downpipe retains a catalyst. The de-cat versions do not, so they are for off-road and competition use only and will fail an MOT emissions test. Both normally need an ECU remap. See manifolds, de-cats and sports cats for related parts.
SQ7 V8 TDI sound and suspension
Owners of the 4.0 V8 TDI from 2016 to 2020 can fit Active Sound Control, which adds a deeper note through a sound generator, and an Active Suspension Control unit. The SQ8 has a very similar petrol line-up.
