Finding the right listing for your F22 M235i or M240i
All the F22 listings are for non-xDrive coupés. The M235i (2014-15) has a cat-back, ValveSonic+ and HJS Tuning ECE downpipes. The M240i LCI is split by its particulate filter: non-OPF cars built 2015-18 have a cat-back, ValveSonic+, HJS ECE downpipes and a large-bore downpipe, while 2019-20 cars with an OPF have their own cat-back and large-bore downpipe. If you own the hatchback equivalent, the M135i or M140i, look in the BMW 1 Series collection.
Milltek for the G42 M240i xDrive: UK/EU or NAS?
The G42 listings are split by market. UK and European cars have an OPF/GPF and are covered for 2022-25 (pre-LCI, non-hybrid): there is a filter-back system that fits behind the factory filter, a cat-back, Active Valve Control, HJS Tuning ECE downpipes, a sports cat downpipe, a de-cat downpipe and a GPF/OPF bypass.
North American and rest-of-world (NAS) cars without a filter have a separate cat-back, an axle-back upgrade kit, and sports cat or de-cat downpipes. The two markets have separate listings, so check whether your M240i has a particulate filter before ordering.
Downpipes and sound options for the 2 Series
HJS ECE downpipes and sports cat downpipes keep a catalyst in the system. De-cat downpipes are for off-road and competition use only and will fail an MOT emissions test, and the GPF/OPF bypass is a louder, motorsport-oriented part. Most downpipe upgrades need an ECU remap; the wider choice is in manifolds, de-cats and sports cats.
Cat-backs come resonated or non-resonated, with resonated the quieter option for long motorway runs, and some resonated versions are listed as EC approved.
