Choosing parts for the Civic Type R FK2, FK8 and FL5
The turbocharged cars share a pattern: a cat-back plus a choice of cast downpipes. The FK2 (2015-17) is listed separately for left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive cars, so pick the one that matches your steering side; each has a cat-back, a cast HJS sports cat downpipe and a de-cat downpipe. On the FK8 (2017-22), one listing covers both OPF/GPF and non-OPF/GPF cars, with a cat-back and three downpipes: HJS sports cat, race cat and de-cat.
The FL5 (2022 on) has the same line-up as the FK8, a cat-back plus HJS sports cat, race cat and de-cat downpipes, with Milltek's Active Valve Control and a valve delete module for cars running a non-valved system.
EP3 and FN2 Civic Type R systems
The earlier i-VTEC cars get more complete systems. The EP3 has a full system (2001-07), plus a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold with a 100 cpsi race cat and a 3-inch (76mm) race cat-back for 2001-05 cars. The FN2 has a cat-back and a full system (2007-12), plus two 3-inch race cat-backs for 2007-11 cars, one listed with a de-cat and one with a race cat.
Civic Type R downpipes: HJS, race cat or de-cat?
The HJS high-flow sports cat downpipes keep a catalyst in the system. Race cat downpipes, the EP3 manifold with race cat and the 3-inch race cat-backs are louder, motorsport-oriented options. De-cat downpipes, and the FN2 race cat-back listed with a de-cat, are for off-road and competition use only and will fail an MOT emissions test. Most downpipes need an ECU remap. Sound and tip options for your Civic Type R
Cat-backs are offered at several sound levels: resonated, Road+ part resonated, non-resonated and race non-resonated. Resonated is the quietest, with less drone on the motorway.
