Choosing a filter-back exhaust for your Land Rover Defender
Most petrol Defenders take a particulate filter-back system, which replaces the exhaust behind the factory filter. To find the right listing, match three things: body length (90, 110 or 130), engine and year. The 2.0 four-cylinder P300 and P400e and the 3.0 six-cylinder P400 each have their own systems for the 90 and 110 from 2020 and the 130 from 2023, and these are listed as fitting cars with or without an OPF/GPF.
The 5.0 V8 (425PS and 525PS) has filter-back systems for OPF/GPF equipped 90 and 110 models from 2021 and the 130 from 2023. The Defender 110 OCTA P635 with the 4.4 V8 (NC11) from 2025 has its own OCTA filter-back system.
NAS V8 and diesel Defender options
V8 Defenders sold in North America (NAS) are listed as non-OPF/GPF, so they take a cat-back system: one for the 90 and 110 (425PS and 525PS, from 2021) and one for the 130 (425PS and 500PS, from 2023). The NAS 130 also has a Satin Black valved outlet upgrade kit. For OPF/GPF V8s, Milltek's Active Valve Control is listed separately for the 90, 110 and 130, so match the unit to your body length. Diesel Defender 90 and 110 models with the AdBlue tank, from 2019, have rear silencers and Active Sound Control, an electronic sound system that gives the D200, D250 or D300 a fuller exhaust note.
Resonated, non-resonated and tip finishes for the Defender
Many Defender systems come resonated or non-resonated. Resonated is quieter, with less drone at motorway speeds, while non-resonated is louder. On some listings the resonated version is marked EC Approved. Tips are mainly GT-90 in Polished, Brushed Titanium, Burnt Titanium, Titanium or Cerakote Black, plus JET-90 Carbon Fibre; one system offers GT-100 tips. See our tip styles guide.
