How the RS3 listings are split
Three details decide which RS3 part you need: generation (8P, 8V or 8Y), body (Sportback or Saloon) and whether the car has an OPF/GPF particulate filter. The 8V Sportback is split into pre-facelift (2015 to 2017), facelift without a filter (2017 to 2018) and facelift with a filter (from 2019). The 8V Saloon is listed without a filter (from 2017) and with one (from 2019). The 8Y Saloon comes in OPF/GPF (from 2021) and non-OPF (from 2022) versions, and the 8Y Sportback with an OPF/GPF.
Cat-back or filter-back for the RS3?
The 8P and every 8V version take a cat-back system. The 8Y takes a filter-back, fitted behind the particulate filter on OPF cars, and the non-OPF 8Y Saloon has its own filter-back listing too. Systems are offered resonated, for less drone at motorway speeds, or non-resonated and Race versions for a louder note, with polished, Cerakote black, titanium or burnt titanium tips in round or oval shapes. Valve control and Maxton diffusers for the RS3
Milltek's Active Valve Control is listed for every 8V and 8Y version, and some listings ask you to choose left- or right-hand drive, so check the options against your car. You will find it with our other electronics. The 8V facelift Sportback can also take a Maxton rear diffuser: one for non-OPF cars from 2017 to 2018 and a quad-outlet version for OPF/GPF cars from 2019.
RS3 downpipes, catalysts and road legality
Sports cat downpipes, the primary hi-flow sports cat turbo elbow on the pre-facelift 8V and the HJS Tuning ECE downpipes for the non-OPF 8V Saloon and facelift Sportback keep a catalyst. De-cat downpipes, the primary catalyst bypass pipe and the secondary catalyst bypass parts do not, so they are for off-road and competition use only and will fail an MOT emissions test. Some de-cat downpipes are also offered with a GPF delete, a louder, motorsport-oriented option. Most downpipes need an ECU remap. More options are in manifolds, de-cats and sports cats.
