Choosing a Milltek exhaust for the F82 and F83 M4
The F82/F83 listings are split by the particulate filter. Non-OPF coupés and convertibles built 2014-18 have a cat-back, an equal length cat-back upgrade kit, ValveSonic+, Active Valve Control, sports cat downpipes, a de-cat downpipe and a secondary catalyst bypass. The 2019-20 cars with an OPF/GPF, including the CS, have their own cat-back, Active Valve Control and GPF/OPF bypass, so check your build year before ordering.
G82 M4: OPF/GPF or North American spec?
UK and European G82s with an OPF/GPF (2020 on) have a filter-back system, an axle-back, Active Valve Control, HJS Tuning ECE downpipes, a sports cat downpipe, a de-cat downpipe, downpipes with cat bypass and a GPF/OPF bypass. Some parts come in versions to suit the OE axle-back or a Milltek one, with twin 76mm or 102mm mid pipe options and an X-pipe.
For North American and rest-of-world G82s without a filter (2021 on), there is a secondary catalyst bypass. The S58 saloon and Touring are in the BMW M3 collection, and the smaller G87 M2 shares the same engine.
Road or track: M4 downpipes, cats and tips
Sports cat downpipes and HJS ECE downpipes keep a catalyst, and some sports cat versions also come with a GPF delete. De-cat downpipes, cat bypass pipes and secondary catalyst bypass parts are for off-road and competition use only and will fail an MOT emissions test, while GPF/OPF bypass pipes are louder, motorsport-oriented choices. Most downpipes need an ECU remap; there are more in manifolds, de-cats and sports cats.
Resonated systems are quieter with less motorway drone, and some are listed as EC approved. Tips include GT-90 and GT-115 in polished, Cerakote Black, brushed and burnt titanium, plus JET carbon fibre; see the tip styles guide.
